Alessandro TAMPIERI viola d’amore, violino Accademia Bizantina
Ottavio DANTONE, conductor

The viola d’amore is a string instrument with additional, sympathetic strings. It was used chiefly in the baroque period. Vivaldi wrote six concertos for this instrument, of which four are found in the Foà-Giordano collection in Turin.

Concerti per archi have no soloist but are simply what we today call ‘string concertos’. Their style is close to that of the sinfonia and they are often recycled freely from opera to opera as was the custom at that time.
